Brocaded silk lampas panels with gold and silver threads, bunches of flowers and leaves, Venice, Italy, mid 18th century.
Description: The lampas was a very rich textile created with a background weft, very often in taffetas, plus disconnected effects made with supplementary wefts that formed a particular design on the fabric.
The warp was formed of silk threads to create the backing, as opposed to a lesser number of threads, also in silk, that were needed to hold the weave together.
The ornamental motif stands out very clearly from the backing and therefore this technique also made it possible to carry out monochrome woven textiles where the design can be seen very clearly.
It was woven with silk thread and further enriched with fine intertwined gold and silver threads.

The two brocaded silk lampas panels (forming originally a chasuble) have a floral composition of leaves and numerous flowers, among them roses, of several bright colours on a salmon pink background.
It is designed in a severely vertical direction.
Judging from the design of the pattern and the position of the bunches of flowers, the chasuble dates from the middle of the 18th century.

Same and coeval lampas sides added to create the chasuble are shown below.

Condition report: good but they may be improved through restoration; one with ink-spot.
Age: Mid 18th century.
